SAN JOSE (KGO) -- Crews are battling a brush fire that broke out Tuesday night off San Felipe Road and Heartland Way near the city's southern border.

So far the fire has burned at least 6 acres and is 75 percent contained.

At least 120 Cal Fire firefighters along with the Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 9:40 p.m. Crews found the fire spreading through heavy brush in an area with tough terrain.

People living along heartland way off San Felipe Road in the eastern foothills of San Jose heard the huge response. "It makes me a little nervous anytime there's this many responders from the fire department it just feels like it's something to worry about. It's a little bit of a concern, but my kids thought it was kind of cool, so that was the upside," Heather Wiggins said.

The fire did not threaten any homes, but a woman told ABC7 News that she packed up some of her family's belongings just in case.

We're in the fourth year of a severe drought and dry grass is a visual reminder that everyone needs to be on alert as we head into the most dangerous time of fire season. "We still have to go through September and October. It's going to get much drier and we just want everyone to be extremely careful when they're outside, either working outdoors or they're out with their family playing outside, or towing boats or trailers, to make sure they have chains picked up off of them because anything can set off a fire," Cal Fire spokesperson Pam Temmermand said.

Officials say no injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

Cal Fire officials are warning anyone who goes hiking in the area to park their vehicle in a parking lot or to make sure to park on dirt because parking in tall grass may spark a wildfire.
