Health supplements millionaire Dino Guglielmelli will spend nine years behind bars for trying to have his wife killed.
Guglielmelli, 53, was sentenced Wednesday in a Los Angeles court for his role in a murder-for-hire plot involving his estranged wife, former model Monica Olsen, 32. He pleaded no contest to second-degree attempted murder charges.
Olsen spoke during Wednesday's sentencing, reading a tearful statement. She said even though Guglielmelli is behind bars, she still fears for her safety.
"He shows little empathy but rather seeks to destroy those that love him the most," she said. "I tried helping him many times during the course of our marriage ... to no avail."
The pair were apparently locked in a bitter divorce battle and fighting for custody of their two daughters.
The crucial evidence in the case was secret audio recordings between Guglielmelli and friend Richard Fuhrmann.
"You want her dead, 100 percent?" Fuhrmann asks on the audio, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.
"Why wouldn't I?" Guglielmelli says.
The couple once seemed to have it all, including a sprawling mansion in Southern California. Guglielmelli is the founder of Creations Garden, a multimillion-dollar natural products company that distributed Olsen's successful skincare line - Skin by Monica Olsen - to drugstores nationwide.
Following Guglielmelli's arrest, he lost his company and filed for bankruptcy.
Prosecutor Emily Cole said that Guglielmelli's plotting was months in the making and wasn't a case of sudden rage.
"This wasn't just the one conversation, this was a year-long planning on trying to have this happen, of trying to kill Monica, but the tape was the evidence," Cole said.
