CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A high-speed chase in the East Bay played out like the scene of a blockbuster film - with high-speeds, gunshots, fire and a driver who put up quite the effort to avoid being arrested. The suspect was finally taken into custody around 1:15 Thursday morning.

Officers and SWAT teams fired non-lethal projectiles during an hour-long standoff. This all started just before 11:30 Wednesday night in Vallejo. Police tried to pull over a driver in a pickup truck for a possible DUI. He led police on a chase along Highway 37, to Highway 80, over the Carquinez Bridge onto Highway 4 into Contra Costa County. Part of the highway was shut down.

Officers laid down a spike strip -- forcing the truck to go out of control. It crashed into a center divide where Hwy 4 meets 680. Police and CHP officers surrounded the car with guns drawn and used non-lethal force to try to get him out. Members of the SWAT team eventually were able to approach the driver.

He was injured and nearly two hours since it all began -- was taken away on a stretcher. The driver will be treated at a hospital -- and taken into custody.
