CONCORD, Calif. -- An infant is in stable condition after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at a home in Concord, a police sergeant said.

At about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews responded to a home in the 1700 block of Ducker Court near Walnut Avenue after receiving a report that an infant had drowned in a residential swimming pool, Concord police Master Sergeant Brandon Richey said.

Police arrived at the home first and found a non-responsive infant being tended to by family members, Richey said.

Officers assumed life-saving efforts from the family, until paramedics arrived to relieve the officers.

The infant was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. The extent of the infant's injuries has not been released, Richey said.

The near-drowning remains under investigation.
