LONDON, England -- A man has killed a woman in a suspected act of cannibalism in a Welsh village, the BBC reports.

The Gwent Police force says officers were called to reports of an attack on a woman early Thursday at a hostel for homeless people in the village of Argoed.

Cerys Marie Yemm, 22, died at the scene from her injuries. Local media quoted residents and hostel staff as saying the woman's face had been severely injured in a cannibalistic attack.

Police confirmed that officers used a stun gun on the attacker, identified as Matthew Williams, 34. Officers say Williams had just recently been released from prison. He "became unresponsive" after the Taser was used on him and died.

Police believe the attacker was in a relationship with the victim. Officers are not looking for other suspects.
