Monticello Fire near Lake Berryessa grows to 5,000 acres

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. -- The vegetation fire that started Friday night in Solano County has spread and has shut down a highway leading to a popular recreational area in Napa County, according to fire officials.

Cal Fire officials said the Monticello Fire, near the southeast shore of Lake Berryessa has now grown to 5,000 acres. The fire is 15 percent contained.

The blaze is covering an area where the Solano, Napa and Yolo county lines converge, Cal Fire officials said.

State Highway 128 is closed in the Lake Berryessa area east of state Highway 121 and west of Winters.

The Golden Bear Estates and Canyon Creek Resort Campground have been evacuated, and an evacuation shelter set up at the Winters Community Center, according to Cal Fire.
