WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- Community members in Walnut Creek are helping neighbors displaced by an explosion that destroyed part of a townhouse complex.

It happened Friday on Sunnyvale Avenue.

Two men who lived in the unit suffered severe burns and are still in critical condition at UC Davis Burn Center.

Investigators say hundreds of volatile butane canisters being used to turn marijuana into hash oil caused the blast.

The explosion blew out windows in buildings across the street.

"Some of the neighbors approached me and offered room or something for the residents that they know need help," said Ed Etemad, homeowners association president.

A third victim showed up at a hospital later that day.

Police say all three face felony charges.
