A police officer in Florida shot a bull that charged him and threatened several children at a school bus stop.

FELLSMERE, Fla. -- A police officer in Florida shot a bull that charged him and threatened several children at a school bus stop.

The bull was spotted running loose outside an apartment complex Wednesday morning in Fellsmere, ABC affiliate WPBF-TV reports. A man had to run from the bull and hide behind a tree. He then called 911.

There were also roughly 20 kids waiting for a school bus nearby. When officer Jeff Gibbs arrived, he tried to distract the bull and lure it away from the children. That's when the bull charged him.

Officer Gibbs opened fire, hitting the bull three times. Despite being injured, the bull still managed to knock the officer down.

The bull then fell over, but it quickly regained its footing and ran away. Gibbs then got up, and despite having a hurt ankle, chased after the bull.

The bull then turned and charged at the officer a second time. Gibbs again opened fire, shooting the animal four more times, killing it.

Gibbs is now recovering at his home. The bull's owner received a $115 fine for not restraining the animal properly.
