One man killed, one injured in Hayward shooting

One person was killed and one injured in a shooting in Hayward Thursday evening, according to police.

Police received 911 calls reporting gunshots and a traffic collision in the area of Saklan Road and W. Winton Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

Arriving officers found a traffic collision at the intersection and one 22-year-old male suffering from a fatal gunshot wound, Ormsby said.

Police were contacted shortly after by a local hospital reporting a second gunshot victim, a 48-year-old male, had been dropped off at their facility.

The deceased victim has not been positively identified yet, and the identity of the injured victim will not be released, Ormsby said.

The motive in the shooting remains under investigation and police have not released any suspect information.
