Out-of-control dump truck crashes into Sausalito home
A large dump truck full of hot asphalt lost control at the top of a steep residential area in Sausalito and rolled backwards down a hill, crashing into a home Wednesday afternoon.

SAUSALITO, Calif. -- An out-of-control dump truck knocked a Sausalito home off its foundation this afternoon, a fire battalion chief said.

The truck's driver was going up a hill on Lower Crescent Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. when he lost control of the truck and it started rolling backwards down the hill, Mill Valley fire Battalion Chief Scott Barnes said.

The driver couldn't stop the truck so he jumped out, breaking his arm in the process. The truck rolled into a two-story home, completely shearing it from its foundation, Barnes said.

Crews were still working on removing the truck from the home this evening. After that, it will need to be demolished.

No other injuries were reported.
