PG&E restoring power after hit-and-run crash into utility pole

BRENTWOOD, Calif. -- A hit-and-run crash into a utility pole off of a rural roadway in Brentwood has left some residents in the area without power Monday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol and PG&E officials.

A pickup truck driver was traveling on Sunset Road near Sellers Avenue around 9:05 a.m. when the car veered off of the roadway and into a power pole, knocking out power to some PG&E customers in the area, CHP Officer John Fransen said.

The driver fled the scene and has not been located.

Fransen said Sunset Road has been shut down between Sellers Avenue and Cumming Road and PG&E crews are on scene working to restore power. Residents of the area are being allowed access to the closed roadway, he said.

PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said the crash knocked out power to 89 customers but as of shortly before 2 p.m., only seven remained without power. Power is expected to be fully restored sometime this evening, Sarkissian said.

The car involved in the crash is described as a white Toyota pickup truck with front-end damage, according to the CHP.
