Police accuse 4 of beating officer in Friday's SF Ferguson protest

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco police held a press conference Monday to debrief on Friday's Ferguson protest and released arrest numbers.

A few downtown and Mission District businesses were vandalized on Black Friday which resulted in big losses for some of the smaller businesses. San Francisco police showed some of the items confiscated Friday night, including some stolen devices from a Radio Shack store.

Four people were booked for assaulting an officer, possession of stolen goods and for outstanding warrants. Most of the 79 people detained received only citations. Seventy percent of those people were not San Francisco residents.

A video featuring two police officers being struck by an A-frame during Friday night's violent protest has gone viral. A total of five San Francisco police officers were injured Friday night. Police released a photo of one the officers badly injured.

"What went on Friday night is not First Amendment activity, it is criminal contact by a fringe element that seems to embed in lawful First Amendment activity and they act out and we will not have that in San Francisco," San Francisco Police Chief Greg

Suhr said.

Some businesses in Downtown San Francisco Monday morning assessed the damage. Grace Jewelry on O'Farrell Street was forced to

close early after protesters, mad over the Ferguson decision, broke several windows.

"We locked the door and they were coming, they scared the people," Diana Tant of Grace Jewelry said.

Hundreds took cover behind police lines at Union Square. Police managed to push activists back to Market Street. From there the demonstrartor headed to the Mission District. There, several stores and banks were vandalized.

The owner of West Bay Glass Company has been busy replacing windows.

"We had a lot of jobs on Saturday morning and Sunday. We did the board up first and we came today to replace the glass," Peter Vaheid of West Bay Glass Company said.

CeX Exchange sells secondhand electronics. They too suffered damage.

"It's not really helpful to the protesters at all. It's more like hurting our business and setting back the community," Zelle Gratuito of CeX Exchange said.

Despite all the people detained, no one has been arrested for vandalism.
