OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A CHP chase of a reckless driver ended in a dramatic takedown by officers this morning on I-880 in Oakland. Officers say the driver hit at least two cars before they stopped him. The pursuit happened during the height of the morning commute in the East Bay.

The CHP got the call around 8:30 a.m. about a reckless driver on northbound I-880 around Hwy 238 in Hayward. Callers were saying the driver was weaving in and out of lanes and moving at a high rate of speed. Then CHP started getting calls that the driver hit other cars and kept on going. The CHP said that other drivers were calling with the make, model and color of the car. It took no time for officers to find the driver. The driver of the blue Toyota crashed near 23rd Ave and I-880, where cops then smashed a car window to do a suspect takedown by force.

"This guy resisted. It took multiple officers to get him subdued and into handcuffs. He was actually transferred to Highland Hospital for an evaluation," said CHP Ofc. Sean Wilkenfeld.

Officers Tazed the suspect; he is 32-years old and from Union City. Officers have not said if they have been able to recover drugs or weapons from the vehicle, or if their suspect is the owner of the car he crashed.

There were no physical injuries to victims - only property damage. Anyone who may have witnessed anything is encouraged to contact Oakland CHP.
