Reward offered to find Vallejo playground arsonist

Fires damage playground at Loma Vista Elementary School in Vallejo.

Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 in exchange for information identifying the arsonist responsible for a playground fire at an elementary school in Vallejo last month.

The arsonist set two fires at Loma Vista Elementary School located at 146 Rainier Ave. The first fire was set on the south side of the school and caused only minimal damage. The exact date and time that fire was set has not been released.

The second fire was set at about 11:25 a.m. on May 31. This fire engulfed a playground that had only been constructed a couple of years ago, police said.

When firefighters arrived at the school, the plastic play structure was fully engulfed in flames and completely destroyed, fire officials said.

The fire did not spread to any other structures and was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The blaze caused about $10,000 to $15,000 in damage, according to police.

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered in exchange for information resulting in the arrest of the suspect or suspects through Solano Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for tips that solve serious or violent crimes.

Citizens with information about the arson can contact Officer T. Nichols at the Vallejo Police Department at (800) 488-9383 or the Solano Crime Stoppers tip line anonymously at (707) 644-STOP.
