San Diego Padres Honor Baseball Legend Tony Gwynn

The San Diego Padres honored former player Tony Gwynn before Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

Gwynn, 54, died Monday following a bout with cancer. He was the team's most iconic player, compiling 3,141 hits during 20 seasons with the Padres.

Gwynn's uniform number - 19 - was groomed into the right field grass and behind home plate.

Petco Park scoreboards also honored Gwynn.

A video shown before the game featured some of Gwynn's historic moments, from his hit milestones to World Series heroics, interactions with baseball greats to his work mentoring young players.

The Padres players stood in right field, Gwynn's position, as the stadium observed 19 seconds of silence.

The players also wore patches on their hats and uniforms, a home plate design emblazoned with "19."

The Padres will wear the patches on their jerseys for the remainder of the season, honoring a Hall of Famer nicknamed "Mr. Padre" for his dedication to the franchise.
