SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A 20-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department has been arrested. His colleagues on the force accuse him of possessing and growing marijuana.

It was the manager of the Public Storage on Tully Road who called police after making an unlikely discovery.

"That employee relayed some information to us that there was some marijuana in a storage cabinet on that facility's grounds," San Jose police spokesperson Albert Morales said.

Police say they found paraphernalia and several pounds of marijuana ready for distribution.

According to the investigation, Officer Son Vu had rented the storage bin, but was not up to date on his payments. That's when the manager decided to move his things out, not knowing what was inside.

Investigators say the officer was also growing marijuana.

Vu has been with the force for 20 years. He will be on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.

"Any time an officer is alleged to have committed a crime, it reflects on everyone and the basis for our job is the trust we instill in the public," San Jose Police Officers Association spokesperson Jim Unland said.

Vu is expected in court sometime in august on another matter for supposedly using excessive force during a 2008 incident in which he is accused of hurting a woman during an arrest.
