SF police respond to multiple shootings

SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police responded to two separate shootings in the city Thursday night. Police shot and injured an armed man and arrested four others in the Potrero Hill neighborhood.

Around 7:50 p.m., plainclothes officers were on violence suppression detail in the 900 block of Connecticut Street when a group of five males were seen acting suspiciously, according to San Francisco police Sgt. Monica MacDonald.

Two officers exited their vehicle to get a better view of the suspects before the group split up, MacDonald said. Four of the suspects were followed by one officer, and one suspect was followed by another officer.

The lone suspect turned on the officer trailing him and produced a handgun, causing the officer to draw his firearm and order the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect did not comply and proceeded to advance on the

officer.

The officer shot the suspect once in the upper body, and the suspect was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, MacDonald said. The injured suspect had suspected narcotics in his possession, and his firearm is believed to be a loaded .38 caliber.

The four other suspects were detained, one of whom also had suspected narcotics in his possession.

The officer involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave per department policy, according to MacDonald.

San Francisco police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said that police have tentatively planned a town hall meeting for Monday 6 p.m. in the Bayview District.

For the second shooting, police arrived at 8:48 p.m. to the scene of a separate shooting in the Western Addition neighborhood at Willow and Buchanan Streets.

An officer located a shooting victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Another shooting victim arrived at San Francisco General as a walk-in shooting victim. This victim was believed to have been shot at Willow and Buchanan and later died from his injuries at the hospital.
