Teacher on paid leave after allegedly calling student derogatory name

A Louisiana teacher is on paid leave after allegedly calling a student a derogatory name.

The incident involves a teacher at a Christian academy in Shreveport who reportedly called a 12-year-old student a "sassy slut" in class.

The girl's mother says other students heard the comment and reduced their daughter to tears.

The student's mom is upset because the teacher is suspended for six days with pay, which she says is basically the same as a paid vacation.

The principal says it is standard procedure while the district investigates.
