BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- Police at UC Berkeley warned students, staff and visitors to stay vigilant in response to car thefts.

Police say there have been nine auto burglaries throughout the campus' parking lots and structures in January.

In almost every case, victims left valuables in plain sight and their windows were smashed.

Police advise people to park vehicles in well-lit and heavily populated areas and recommend you remove all forms of identification from the car.
