Water service restored in Vallejo after 20-inch main break
Water service has just been restored for nearly half the city of Vallejo. About 30,000 homes either lost water or had low water pressure after a 20-inch water main broke Saturday morning.

VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- Water service has just been restored for nearly half the city of Vallejo. About 30,000 homes either lost water or had low water pressure after a 20-inch water main broke Saturday morning.

If your water is on, it is safe to drink.

The reduced pressure was a big concern for the fire department. "We really don't have enough water to fight fires or deal with anything on pretty much the west side of town," Vallejo Fire Dept. Batt. Chief Cliff Campbell said.

Now that the water is turned back on, officials say it may taste funny, look cloudy and there could be some pieces of sediment in it for about 48 hours but it is safe to drink.

Residents are advised not to wash clothes in it until the color goes away.
