Women's Choir Sings Amid Nigerian Violence

While the world continues to hope for the safe return of nearly 300 girls kidnapped by a terror group, a group of women in Nigeria, outside the city of Abuja, sang religious songs today in a bid to cope with the situation.

Despite the threats and violence of the terror group Boko Haram, the women sing songs about Jesus and about how he holds their hand even during troubled times.

Boko Haram, which wants to impose Islamic law in the country, abducted some 300 girls from a boarding school in the northeast town of Chibok on April 15.

This comes as a new report today shows that Nigerian authorities failed to act on warnings about Boko Haram's imminent raid on a boarding school where it abducted more than girls.

Amnesty international, after verifying the information with "credible sources," said Nigerian security forces knew of the attack four hours before Boko Haram struck.

"The fact that Nigerian security forces knew about Boko Haram's impending raid, but failed to take the immediate action needed to stop it, will only amplify the national and international outcry at this horrific crime," Netsanet Belay, Amnesty International's Africa director, research and advocacy, said today in a statement. "It amounts to a gross dereliction of Nigeria's duty to protect civilians, who remain sitting ducks for such attacks. The Nigerian leadership must now use all lawful means at their disposal to secure the girls' safe release and ensure nothing like this can happen again."
