SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A lifesaving gift could help save Bay Area pets from a deadly fire.

The SPCA presented the San Francisco Fire Department with dozens of animal oxygen kits Wednesday.

The kits are specially sized to deliver oxygen to animals suffering from smoke inhalation.

An SPCA board member got the idea after hearing about firefighters in another area using the kits to save a pet's life.

She posted a matching challenge grant on her Facebook page, and says donations came rolling in.

"It really only took three or four days, and the majority was friends of mine on Facebook, and then about $500 came from the SPCA," SPCA Board Member Susan Atherton said.

The campaign raised $6,000 which was enough to pay for some 70 oxygen kits.
