PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. (KGO) -- Nearly two-dozen animals have been rescued from a hoarder's house in Monterey County.

SPCA officials say 18 dogs were locked in three small, filthy rooms in a home in Pacific Grove. The stench was so strong, it was difficult for officers to breathe.

Two cats were also found inside.

The home was cluttered with piles of clothing and garbage and filled with feces.

The animals were suffering from neglect and a variety of infections and diseases.

The SPCA is still investigating and is expected to ask the district attorney to file charges against the homeowner.
