Chihuahua rescued from freeway now receiving care at shelter

There's been no word on how the little Chihuahua ended up on I-680, but the CHP did say the dog is now safe. (CHP Contra Costa/Twitter)

A California Highway Patrol officer came to the rescue of a small Chihuahua that somehow ended up on the median of I-680 in Contra Costa County Friday.

The CHP posted a photo of the rescue to Twitter.

The dog is now being cared for at the Contra Costa Animal Services shelter in Martinez.
