In a brief swing through San Francisco, President Barack Obama attended two fundraisers and spoke at the Conference of Mayors.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- President Barack Obama was in town for the U.S. Conference of Mayors. In this forum with city leaders from the across the country, his thoughts were with the citizens of Charleston, South Carolina and the latest mass murder at the hands of a gunman.

"You don't see murder on this kind of scale, with this kind of frequency in any other advanced nation on Earth," Obama said.

He urged mayors to return to their respective cities and rally for reforms that will curb gun violence in America. Following the meeting with mayors, he attended two fundraisers including one in the Sea Cliff neighborhood home of hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer.

Neighbors have seen him here before, but they said this time security was much tighter.

"Typically, we've been able to stay across the street and watch him exit from the Limousine and we've caught a glimpse of him, but this time the officer said that we couldn't even leave the house,"

Sea Cliff resident Barry Goldstein said.

The president avoided staying at the Intercontinental Hotel during his last visit because of complaints about security diversions during rush hour traffic. This time the traffic jam was back.

The president flies to Palm Springs Saturday.
