SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KGO) -- Shoppers in five Bay Area cities saw their sales taxes go up Tuesday.

San Rafael, Antioch, Corte Madera, Larkspur, San Anselmo and Scotts Valley voters approved the increases last fall.

Most were designed to offset budget shortfalls and pay for city and law enforcement services.

San Rafael's sales tax increase goes from 9.0 to 9.25 percent, which makes it the highest sales tax rate in Marin County.
