7 On Your Side reveals Halloween makeup tips
7 On Your Side's Michael Finney reveals great Halloween makeup tips.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Planning to attend a Halloween haunt this weekend? 7 On Your Side has some makeup tips that could frighten even the scariest ghouls and goblins.

There's no need to spend money purchasing or even renting a costume.

If you're willing to invest a little time, you can turn yourself into a walking zombie without spending much.

Whether you plan to be a superhero or villain, makeup can enhance your look.

7 On Your Side visited the special effect artists at Kryolon in San Francisco to brush up on a ghastly look.

"This is fairly easy to do for the average person, you just need a few things," Kryolan employee Jordan Plath said.

Plath likes to begin with all his 3D effects. He's used wax to create scars and wounds on Wendy's face and body.

An easier alternative to wax is cotton and latex.

"You simply want to submerge the cotton in the liquid latex and then apply it to the face, kind of sculpt it with your fingers and then let it dry," Plath said.

Then, you pick colors that are going to give you an unhealthy look. Plath chose a mixture of a flesh tone and grey.

You sponge the colors all over the face, making sure you cover the wound that you created.

Plath then added a dark purple and a burgundy. The hope is to make the face a little more gaunt and hollow.

"I'm going to go around the face and begin to contour it. We're trying to make the face look a little bit more skeletal," Plath said.

Be sure to add a bit of shading to all the contours of the face. Create a little bruising for added effect and add a little color around the eye sockets. Highlights will make all the features pop. And of course, don't forget the fake blood.

Kits are available for everything you need for the look you want.

Wendy makes the perfect zombie. It's quite a transformation from where she started.

If you're in the mood to show off your giant colors, Jasmine's sugar skull may be the way to go.

Or you can go for a vampire look. You could do this for under $50 probably depending on how far you want to take it," Plath said.

If all this seems a bit overwhelming, the makeup artists at Kryolan would be happy to create the look that you want specifically for you.
