The new and improved lights will return for good as the Bay Area hosts Super Bowl 50 in 2016. Crews started work last night to reinstall 25,000 white led lights; they started by making sure all of them turned on. They're expected to be done by the end of January, that's when the grand lighting will also take place next year.

The Bay Lights has been an iconic fixture for locals and tourists alike, many were sad to see them go. The original set was removed six months ago when it was found to be damaged by salt water. Illuminate the Arts, a local non-profit is now raising $4 million to reinstate the lights that is said to be more durable. There has been so much support for the project, the local non-profit says they'll have no problems raising the money needed.

The Bay Lights will be the world's largest LED light sculpture at 1.8 miles wide and standing 500 feet high.
