SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- You've seen gingerbread houses, but have you ever seen a Christmas tree made of sugar?

The Westin Saint Francis Hotel unveiled the sweet creation on Wednesday.

The tree stands twelve feet tall and is made of hundreds of pounds of sugar.

It has more than 1,000 hand-made candies that are shaped as snowmen, gift boxes, candy canes and elves.

"Our entire pastry shop has been working for the last six months on this sugar tree. He's a French pastry chef, so there are a lot of macaroons and all sorts of French ornaments that only he could come up with," said Jon Kimbal, with the Westin St. Francis.

The candy ornaments are all edible. But the Westin Saint Francis doesn't want guests eating them. Instead, they are offering free cookies and hot chocolate to visitors.
