SAN MATEO, Calif. (KGO) -- San Mateo Senator Jerry Hill has launched an investigation into rate hikes by PG&E after local customers complain.

Some residents reported that their rates doubled or even tripled in recent weeks.

Similar rate hikes have been reported throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento valley.

PG&E says the hikes are likely because of last year's rate hikes, and increased use in the winter.
