Women in Turkey have taken to social media to protest comments by the country's Deputy Prime Minister who said, "women shouldn't laugh out loud in public."
In response, hundreds of women have been sharing photos of themselves smiling and laughing on Twitter, Instagram and other sites.
The government official claimed that not laughing out loud in public was among requirements of being an honorable woman.
A prominent women rights' activist noted that it's a pity Turkish women have to respond to silly comments when they have more serious problems to deal with.
