Two Bay Area residents win men's, women's division of Oakland Marathon

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Two Bay Area residents won the men's and women's divisions of Sunday's Oakland Marathon at the Oakland Running Festival, race results show.

Semereab Gebrekidan, 32, of Oakland won the men's division with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes and 56 seconds, according to the start gun time.

The running chip he was wearing recorded a two-second shorter run.

Katherine Klymko, 28, of Berkeley won the women's division with a time of 3:09:06, according the start gun time. Her chip time was four seconds faster.

This is the eighth year for the festival. Organizers said according to Competitor Magazine the marathon is now nationally recognized as the race to run in the Bay Area.
