A squirrel put on quite a show Friday as the St. Louis Cardinals visited the Philadelphia Phillies.

The rodent scaled the net behind home plate and started scampering along the top. As it picked up speed, it launched off the wire and through the air, plunging toward the Phillies dugout. The players scattered as the squirrel spiraled toward their heads. The squirrel then disappeared into the wall behind the cameras.

The little daredevil quickly shot to Internet fame, with some footage from a fan's vantage point garnering nearly 2 million views over the weekend.

Just in case you're not up to scruff on your "animals on the baseball pitch" history, this particular matchup has seen squirrel interference before. During a 2011 postseason game between the Phillies and Cardinals, a squirrel scampered across home plate, reportedly distracting the Phillies pitcher. The Cardinals went on to win that game and the series. They lovingly dubbed the mischievous little critter their "rally squirrel."

So this weekend, of course, both teams thought back to that day when a squirrel made an even more attention-grabbing appearance. The Cardinals once again came away with a win.

Could it be the same squirrel, now upping its game to death-defying stunts? If so, the "rally squirrel" is certainly setting the bar high for other sports-enthusiast animals.
