Giants, Eli Manning working out final details of 4-year, $84M extension

For more than a week, Eli Manning and the New York Giants have been in agreement on a four-year contract extension worth $84 million that would include $65 million in guaranteed money, but the two sides have remained hung up on specific contract language they hope to agree upon by this weekend, according to league and team sources.

The two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback still will make $17.5 million in the final year of his current contract, which would bring his five-year total to $101.5 million, per sources.

"It's not done yet," Manning told ESPN's Ed Werder late Thursday afternoon. "Hopefully it gets done very soon, and I can worry about football and not have to deal with this."

Manning's $21 million average in new money on the four-year extension would rank him fourth among quarterbacks in the NFL, behind Aaron Rodgers ($22 million), Russell Wilson ($21.9 million) and Ben Roethlisberger ($21.85 million).

The contract language that has remained a hurdle is based on two concepts that would possibly influence Manning's long-term future, sources said.
