OSU RB Devon Thomas arrested

Oklahoma State freshman running back Devon Thomas was arrested in his hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, late Wednesday on felony complaints of armed robbery and shooting with intent to kill, police said.

Thomas, 18, and three others are accused of robbing a man at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon and then firing a gun at the victim as the victim drove away.

Thomas has denied to police that he had or shot a gun during the incident. He was moved early Friday to the Tulsa jail, where he is being held on a $125,000 bond. He has an arraignment scheduled for June 6, when charges could be filed.

An Oklahoma State spokesman said Friday the school was "gathering the facts" on the alleged incident.

According to Broken Arrow police Corp. Leon Calhoun, the victim said the suspects stole his marijuana, money, shoes and clothing and told him to leave because they were going to "bust a cap."

As the victim was driving away, one of the suspects fired at least one shot that went through the vehicle's rear windshield, nicking the driver's side head rest and narrowly missing the victim's head, Calhoun said.

The victim identified all four suspects, and told police he had known them for several years. He also said that Thomas was the suspect brandishing the gun.

Thomas, 18-year-old Eduard Smith, 18-year-old De'Carrio Taylor and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested late Wednesday after a police investigation.

Calhoun said police suspect the incident stemmed from a drug deal.

Thomas, who was an ESPN 300 recruit, enrolled at Oklahoma State in January and participated with the Cowboys in spring practice. He was the first player to commit to Oklahoma State's 2014 recruiting class.
