SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- You're going to see a lot of orange around San Francisco this week to celebrate and support the Giants in their quest for a third championship in five years.

"Orange October" has taken over San Francisco buildings and city landmarks like Coit Tower and the Ferry Building, which are glowing orange with Giants pride. Even the sidewalk along the Embarcadero is lit up orange.

Many Giants fans are already dressed head-to-toe in their gear - excited and anxious for Game 1 of the World Series.

"I'm very excited for today. Nervous, but very, very excited," said Giants fan Drea Dedona.

"I got my pennant to hang up in my cube when I get to the office," said Marri Triplett, another Giants fan.

This is the third time in five years the Giants have played in the World Series. The Kansas City Royals haven't been since 1985.

"I think there's something magical happening with Bruce Bochy and this year's Giants team, and I in my heart of hearts I don't see how they're not going to win this World Series," said Dedona.

Game 1 will be played at Ewing M. Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr says he doesn't expect city streets to get too rowdy Tuesday night with the team playing away, but they're ready. "We do have additional resources out. All the officers are working. We check all the bars," explained Chief Suhr.

As a lifelong San Franciscan, Chief Suhr admits, he's nervous, too. "I'm always nervous. I mean I love the Giants. And I want so bad for them to win. Just for the chemistry of the team and the new guys like Panik and Susac."

Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White is going to Game 3 on Friday. The excitement even has her bending some staff rules. "I've allowed the wearing of Giants ball caps through the series and even some flags you'll see on the firehouses."

Even the fire boat at Station 35 is decorated with a San Francisco Giants flag.

The first game to be played in San Francisco will be Friday. Those tickets are sold out but some can still be found on sites like StubHub, going for about $550 per ticket.

Meanwhile, the mayors of the two cities have made a friendly wager on the World Series as well - community service for a day in the winner's city.

If the Giants fall, Mayor Ed Lee will read to public school kids in Kansas City. If the Royals lose, Kansas City mayor Sly James will come here, sing with the Glide Ensemble and serve meals to the homeless.

There is also food involved. If the Giants lose, Mayor Lee will send our famous Humphry Slocombe ice cream, Boudin sourdough and Philz coffee to Kansas City. But San Francisco wins, Mayor Lee will get Kansas City barbecue and jazz records.
