Soccer fans report traffic issues at Levi's Stadium
People who drove to the first ever international soccer game held at Levi's Stadium Saturday night reported some big issues with traffic and parking.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- The first ever international soccer game was held Saturday night at the new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. It was a huge event with a sold out crowd, passionate fans, and world class teams. But there were still some issues.

Soccer fans couldn't get into the new stadium. They came equipped with flags, face paint, and full-fledged pride.

The Mexico versus Chile soccer game sold out fast. But getting to the stadium and into the designated parking lots wasn't that easy.

"It doesn't have further directions," said Oakland resident Laura Nagle while gesturing to her ticket. "So we just had to ask a bunch of people until someone finally pointed us in the right direction."

When asked if he was frustrated, Mountain View resident Eder Deangel sid, "I'm very frustrated because I'm already missing the first half of the game."

Traffic crawled through the streets of Santa Clara. Lanes were closed, cones were up, and police were out. But there was still a lot of confusion.

"I was in a line and I was in the wrong line in my car," said San Francisco resident Arturo Duran. "So that took me 45 minutes. And then when I make it finally, they say 'oh, you are in wrong line you need to go that way.'"

Adding to the congestion -- the Great America traffic. The park stayed open on Saturday, unlike during 49er games, when it will be closed.

Stadium management kept a close eye on things Saturday night. And not just on traffic flow, but also on the new turf.

The 49ers installed the same type of turf it used at Candlestick Park. The team hopes this sod will cut down on any problems. Saturday night's match was the first test on the new field.

Aside from the traffic, women were upset over a purse policy at the stadium. Only clear bags and wallets were allowed inside. Purses should either be checked or kept at home.
