Man shot during robbery at Bay Fair BART station

SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) -- A man was robbed when he was shot while walking through a parking lot at the Bay Fair BART station in San Leandro on Tuesday night, a police lieutenant said Wednesday.

The man was approached by two men in their 20s while walking through the parking lot at about 10:15 p.m., BART police Lt. Terence McCarty said.

The two suspects stole the victim's backpack and shot him in the upper torso, McCarty said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was stable Wednesday and able to be interviewed by police investigators, McCarty said.

The two suspects ran away after the shooting and police received reports they may have gotten into a white newer-model sedan, McCarty said.

The suspects remained at large as of Wednesday morning.
