ANTIOCH, Calif. -- A stretch of state Highway 4 in Antioch will be closed early Sunday morning as construction crews work on a project to widen the roadway.

Crews closed all eastbound lanes of Highway 4 from Somersville Road to Lone Tree Way from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. this morning and will close all westbound lanes along the same stretch of the highway from midnight tonight to 5 a.m. Sunday, according to Caltrans officials.

The closure is to ensure the safety of workers who will be re-striping and shifting lanes along the roadway.

Detours will be in place at the Lone Tree Way off-ramp early Sunday morning.

The construction work is part of an ongoing project to widen Highway 4 from four to eight lanes from Loveridge Road in Pittsburg to state Highway 160 in Oakley to ease traffic congestion in the area.
