Damaged East Bay highway sign gets crane removal after dump truck crash

PLEASANTON, Calif. (KGO) -- Drivers are dealing with the impact of delays and detours Wednesday morning after a truck slammed into an overhead sign on an East Bay interstate.

The crash happened before 4 a.m. Wednesday morning on Northbound I-680 in Pleasanton, closing down lanes at Stoneridge Drive for more than five hours. All lanes reopened after 10:30 a.m.

Crews worked to remove a damaged overhead sign.

Caltrans says the cab of a dump truck flipped open and hit the overhead sign, scraping the bottom corner.

Crews shut down all northbound lanes of the highway over concerns that it could fall onto incoming traffic.

After hours of inspections, crews finally put up a giant crane and lifted the entire sign out, placing it safely on the side of the highway.

Caltrans says it will take a while to get the new signs up, but the good news is no one was injured.
