OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The Oakland Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed two men and injured another.

Police say officers responded to shots fired near 84th Ave. and Birch St. around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say one of the victims was pronounced dead on scene while two others were transported to the hospital.

Officials say one of those men later died from his injuries at the hospital.

At this time, there is no description of the suspect or suspects.

Oakland police are trying to determine what led up to the shooting and are asking anyone to come forward with information.

Last week, Oakland police released a report that showed an uptick in gun activity year over year. The report also showed that more than 700 guns related to crimes have been recovered this year in the city of Oakland.

Police say the city must work together to reduce violence.
