"We took a detour just to get away from the traffic and hopefully the traffic won't be too bad in few minutes when we try to make our way out there," Patricia Garcia said.
Traffic is being directed not only along Marina Boulevard, but also at 19th Avenue and Geary Boulevard just north of the Golden Gate Park.
Officials say construction on Doyle Drive is on schedule and drivers can expect it to reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday.
