While many were dreaming in gold during Sunday night's Oscars, others were focused on a diversity problem for the Academy.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KGO) -- While many were dreaming in gold during Sunday night's Oscars, others were focused on a diversity problem for the Academy.

Everyone is talking about Chris Rock's monologue. All eyes were on the comedian as he addressed the controversy that has clouded the show for weeks - the lack of diversity.

So how did he take on the elephant in the room? With a direct hit.

Right from the top, Rock addressed the issue with nuance, discernment and historical perspective.

No one got a free pass, not even Tinseltown itself.

"Is Hollywood racist? You're damn right Hollywood is racist. Hollywood is sorority racist. It's like, 'We like you, Rhonda, but you're not a Kappa,'" Rock said in his monologue.

Rock even commented on Jada Pinkett Smith's boycott, saying it doesn't matter since she wasn't invited.

For the most part, reaction to Rock's monologue has been good.

Some are calling it a comedic tour de force, others saying he "crushed it."
