OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The dog days of summer for some hospitalized kids will now be a lot more fun thanks to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies dropped off a huge mound of toys to the UCSF Benioff Oakland Children's Hospital Tuesday.
Many kids in extended care can suffer from depression. Their friends and family members visit less because they're traveling, or taking part in summer events.
"Over the year, a lot of people donate to the hospital during the Christmas time," said Lt. Michael Carroll. "A lot of these kids are neglected and forgotten about during the summertime, so we decided, hey, let's put together a toy drive."
The sheriff's department asks that people consider donating to children's hospital to help make the summer much happier for these kids.
