East Palo Alto officers were dispatched to a home in the 2400 block of Illinois Street at about 4:40 a.m. At the home they found the man who had been stabbed in his upper torso.

The man was transported to a nearby emergency room. The victim remained in surgery at about 12:30 p.m. today, Sgt. David Carson said.
The suspect, a 30-year-old East Palo Alto resident, was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail, according to police.
Detectives say they believe the stabbing was the result of an altercation between the suspect and the victim.
