13abc spoke with both the victim's mother and sister. They are both upset, but also confused. They have no idea why someone would want to kill the girl they loved so much.
Verna Messersmith is struggling with the reality. Her 24-year-old daughter, Vera Jo Reigle, is gone. Police say CSX train operators found Reigle's body lying on the tracks around 2:00 Sunday morning. Family members tell us her throat had been slit and she was stabbed multiple times.
Just hours after the discovery, police arrested Daniel Bixler, 21, of Tiffin and a 17-year-old female from Fostoria. <:p> Reigle, who has a one-year-old daughter, had been living with her boyfriend's family for the last two years. Family members tell us the two accused of murdering the young mother knew her pretty well and now they want to know why.
"Today it really affected me knowing my sister is never coming home or nothing. I just want to know why they killed my sister."
Daniel Bixler had a video arraignment Tuesday in Findlay Municipal Court. The 21-year-old's preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 6. Bond was set at $1 million.
