The test will run 30 seconds starting right at 11 a.m. (the start of our midday newscast). The goal is to identify any problems with the system, which is used to inform the public of any emergency or disaster.
The emergency alert system has been in place 60 years but it has never had a nationwide test.
During the test people will hear a tone followed by instructions explaining the test.
