Audrie Pott documentary shown at Sundance Film Festival

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Saratoga teen driven to suicide by cyberbullying is the subject of a documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival Monday night.

Audrey Pott hanged herself in 2012 after she was sexually assaulted at a house party. Nude photos of her surfaced at school afterward.

Two San Francisco filmmakers took up Audrie's story to highlight the effects of cyberbullying.

Her father, Larry Pott, spoke to ABC7 News from the festival. He said, "We need to start having conversations with our children. They need to understand that this is not normal behavior and everybody needs to get involved and everybody can make a difference."

The filmmakers are hoping to break down the stigma and isolation for teenage rape victims sparked by social media.

Last year, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Audrie's Law, which increases penalties for teens convicted in cyberbullying crimes.
