Animal shelter in Burlingame waiving black cat adoption
BURLINGAME, Calif. -- Animal shelter officials are waiving the fees to adopt a black cat this Black Friday, officials of the Peninsula Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Burlingame said.
An anonymous donor is paying the fees and the event will continue through Dec. 3, shelter officials said.

People who adopt a cat six years old and younger will be saving $80, according to shelter officials. People who adopt a kitten six months old and younger will save $120 and people who adopt a cat seven years old and older will save $50, shelter officials said.
The shelter will be open today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1450 Rollins Road, but shelter officials are asking people to come in no later than 6 p.m., according to the PHS & SPCA.
To see many of the shelter's black, mostly black and black kittens before Friday, visit phs-spca.org, shelter officials said. More than 50 black kittens and black cats are waiting to be adopted, according to shelter officials.
"Visiting and spending time with an adoptable kitty might just be the opposite of a hectic Black Friday shopping experience," PHS and SPCA spokesman Scott Delucchi said in a statement.
"And, it doesn't get any better than making a shelter pet part of your family during the holiday season."
Delucchi said it's probably harder to find homes for black cats for several reasons. There are more of them, he said. It's harder for black cats stand out among the many other black cats, he said.
Some people might believe a black cat is bad luck and it's a little harder for photographers to capture the personality of a black cat than cats of other colors, he said.
