Richmond charter school facing opposition over wanting to build new campus

RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- A charter school in Richmond is facing opposition from some parents who don't want them to build a new school.

The controversy escalated when parents found out the school district is selling a site for that school, Caliber: Beta Academy, for only $60,000.

Caliber would like to take over an empty middle school in the Richmond hills, which closed seven years ago. Since then, Adams Middle School has been vandalized and a victim of arsonists.

The school district says it does not have the money to retrofit or rebuild the school. So, west Contra Costa Unified has offered it to Caliber.
