RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- A charter school in Richmond is facing opposition from some parents who don't want them to build a new school.
The controversy escalated when parents found out the school district is selling a site for that school, Caliber: Beta Academy, for only $60,000.
Caliber would like to take over an empty middle school in the Richmond hills, which closed seven years ago. Since then, Adams Middle School has been vandalized and a victim of arsonists.
The school district says it does not have the money to retrofit or rebuild the school. So, west Contra Costa Unified has offered it to Caliber.
But as ABC7 News education reporter Lyanne Melendez found out, that deal comes with a lot of strings attached. Watch the video player above for the full story.
